Floating feeling outside of the body is referred to as an out-of-body experience (OBE). This term was introduced in the year 1943 by G.N.M Tyrrell in a book written by him called Apparitions. The description in this book is by subjective awareness from a vantage point outside of one’s physical body.

During astral projection the astral body leaves the physical. When you astral project you remain attached to your physical body by a silver cord just like the umbilical cord. Out of body travel has been recorded in the annals of history, dating back several centuries to the times of the ancient Egyptians. They called the soul, or the astral body, “Kha,” and often reproduced images of it hovering over or beyond the flesh-and-blood body. It was shown to be airy and translucent, and often haloed by light.
